In 2018, I embarked on an unforgettable two-week journey to Nepal, a country known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality. This trip combined city exploration, relaxation, and adventure, offering a perfect blend of experiences.
The adventure began in Kathmandu, Nepal’s bustling capital. The city’s chaotic yet fascinating energy was immediately captivating. I spent time wandering through the historic streets, visiting the sacred Swayambhunath Stupa (also known as the Monkey Temple), and marveling at the intricate architecture of Durbar Square. The scent of incense filled the air as monks chanted prayers in hidden courtyards, creating an atmosphere of spiritual serenity amidst the urban hustle.
After soaking in the cultural wonders of Kathmandu, I headed to Pokhara, a picturesque lakeside town nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. The contrast between the two cities was striking—Pokhara’s laid-back vibe, stunning Phewa Lake, and panoramic views of the Annapurna range made it an ideal place to relax before the big trek. I spent a couple of nights there, taking in the sunrise from Sarangkot and enjoying a peaceful boat ride on the lake.
The highlight of the trip, however, was the 10-day trek to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). Setting off from Nayapul, the journey took me through dense rhododendron forests, terraced fields, and charming Gurung villages. Each day brought new challenges and rewards—steep ascents, suspension bridges swaying over rushing rivers, and breathtaking mountain vistas that made every step worthwhile.
Reaching Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters was an indescribable moment. Surrounded by towering peaks, the sense of accomplishment and sheer beauty of the snow-capped giants left me in awe. The early morning sunrise over Annapurna I and Machapuchare was a sight I will never forget, painting the sky with hues of pink and gold.
The descent was just as exhilarating, allowing me to fully appreciate the landscapes I had trekked through. A well-earned soak in the natural hot springs of Jhinu Danda was the perfect way to unwind after days of hiking.
Returning to Pokhara felt like a dream—hot showers, delicious meals, and the chance to reflect on the adventure. Back in Kathmandu, I had one last chance to immerse myself in Nepalese culture before heading home, already thinking about when I could return.
My journey to Nepal was more than just a trip; it was an experience that tested my endurance, deepened my appreciation for nature, and introduced me to incredible people along the way. If there’s one place that truly embodies adventure and serenity, it’s Nepal.
